Planned maintenance on SpreadCharts

Published March 20, 2020

The SpreadCharts app will undergo maintenance on Sunday, March 22nd, 2020.

How is it going to impact you?

The app will be unavailable for a few tens of minutes under the perfect scenario. However, if we encounter any problems, it can take us some time to resolve them. Therefore, brace for more downtime through the day, just as a precaution.

Once we finish the maintenance, we will let you know on our twitter. Then we recommend everybody to clear cookies and temporary files in the browser. If you encounter any bugs after the transition, let us know on system(at)spreadcharts.com

We also recommend you to save all the tabs into the watchlist. We don’t expect you should lose the tabs. Nevertheless, the watchlist, not the tabs, is designed for long term preservation of your charts. It’s the same principle as tabs and bookmarks in web browsers.

Why are we doing this?

We have completely redesigned the way how user data is stored on our servers. We will deploy a new database, and also the exchange of data between the users and our servers will be entirely different. Unlike most of the modifications, we can’t do this while the app is running.

The changes will bring you:

  • higher reliability (which is basically close to 100% even now)
  • faster responsivity of the app – the speedup would be easily noticeable even on normal devices with good connection (we estimate it will be tens of % faster). On a less stable or slower connection, however, the app can be many times or even a magnitude faster than it is now.
  • the new database and other improvements open new possibilities. It will allow us to implement new features that were previously too computationally demanding.

We hope the transition will happen smoothly, and you will be able to enjoy an even faster and more reliable app since Monday.
